University of Manchester Study Protocol

The Centre for Dermatology Research at the University of Manchester is conducting a 12-week open clinical study led by Dr. Abigail K Langton and Dr. Mark D Farrar, investigating whether Veritace®-tested LEDs at wavelengths of 633nm, 830nm, and 1072nm —  delivered through the CurrentBody Series 2 LED Face Mask — can improve signs of photoageing in human skin.

Participants: Minimum of 20 healthy females, aged 35–55, Fitzpatrick skin types I–III, with moderate facial and forearm photoageing. Measurements at Week 0, Week 6, and Week 12.

Usage: 10 minutes, five times per week on face and forearm for 12 weeks.

Setting: Single-centre, Centre for Dermatology Research, University of Manchester.

Equipment: VISIA photography, clinical photoageing grading (0–8 scale), Corneometer (hydration), Tewameter (TEWL), Cutometer (elasticity), L*a*b* colorimetry, 3mm punch biopsies with haematoxylin & eosin staining and immunostaining for FRM deposition, total elastic fibres, total fibrillar collagens, pro-collagen I, and Ki67.
